It is the only global non-government organisation of this kind, which is dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methodology, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage. Its members are mostly architects, historians, archaeologists, art historians, geographers, anthropologists, engineers and town planners etc to improve the preservation of heritage, the standards and the techniques for each type of cultural heritage property : buildings, historic cities, cultural landscapes and archaeological sites.

Why in Vigan?
ICOMOS Philippines will be holding the ICOMOS International Conference on Cultural Tourism in Vigan, Ilocos Sur where the public can join this event on Nov 7-8, 2012. Why in Vigan? Well Vigan is World Heritage Site accredited by UNESCO and an example of an emerginng tourism destination.

What am I doing here in this international conference?
NEVER in my life I dreamt of blogging about the Philippines' culture, heritage and tourism. But the earliest I can remember is almost four years ago I was a provenciana who just came here in Manila to work. Does not know a single friend and does not much of country's history. One day, a very good friend of mine Lyn invited me to tour Intramuros to a roundtable discussion of Manila - Acapulco
galleons. I got so curious of these largest galleons in the world at that time built and materials all here in the Philippines. That's how I started being curious about our country's heritage then eventually got into culture and tourism.

So see you Vigan for 4 days!
I will spend the first two days for the conference alone. I hope to meet like-minded people who share the same advocacy. The last two days I will visit the places I have not seen when I went there last January. I will also meet a local tour operator that I am looking forward to do business with as I am getting a few more inquiries about the Laoag, Vigan and Pagudpud tour package I am offering.
