If you are looking for a truly different kind of music festival that combines modern and ethnic vibes in a majestic mountainside called Malasimbo, check this out which will b held on February 27th to March 3rd 2014.
The Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival only started in 2011 but it is now dubbed as the first international music and arts festival of its calibre in Asia. Imagine listening to local and international musicians in the middle of a tropical garden of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro.
It is advised to please book in advance your tickets and accommodation for your convenience.
During daytime, this festival will be a celebration of all art forms: the Sculpture Garden at Malasimbo is the venue to a lot of artworks for talented Filipino visual artists. At nighttime, sacred chants, ethnic rites and modern music will surely make everyone sleepless and forget the cold air brought by the mountains that surround the place. One good cause of the organizers that is worth mentioning is the promotion of tribal music and wearing traditional attires especially to the youth because nowadays singing such or wearing such is regarded as "badoy" or left behind in terms of fashion.
Workshops will be added as well to learn local dances and handicrafts as an effort to educate the public about Mindoro's indigenous people and culture. This is the best avenue to learn the lifestyle, language abd music of the 7 Mangyan tribes of Mindoro.
How to get there
Puerto Galera is a 1.5 hour bus or car trip from Manila to Batangas and a 1-2 hour ferry boat ride to reach Puerto Galera. Public and Private Ferries are available and you can also bring your car to Puerto Galera on the RORO.
