The highlight of the celebration is the Sinulog contest or the Sinulog Grade Parade on the ninth day where competing groups in bright colored costumes dance to the rhythm of drums, trumpets and native gongs.

A day before the parade, a fluvial procession is held at dawn carrying the Santo Niño via a pump boat from Mandaue City to Cebu City decorated by hundreds of flowers and candles. When the crowd and the Santo Niño reach the Basilica del Sto. Niño, a re - enactment of Christianizing (the act of converting to Roman Catholicism) is performed. In the afternoon, along the major streets in Cebu, another related procession takes place.
"Sinulog" came from the Cebuano word "sulog" which means a water current movement. The Sinulog dance is entirely a forward - backward movement consisting of 2 steps forward and 1 step backward.

A good place to start a Cebu City tour is Casa Gorordo, a historical home in downtown Cebu City.
1. Fort San Pedro----is one of the oldest spanish Fort in the Philippines . Work was started May 8, 1565 with Legaspi himself breaking the ground.
2. Magellan's Cross---the spaniards with a ceremony of baptismal rites for over 800 natives, it was in in the same ceremony that the spaniards then planted a wooden cross and conducted the first christian mass in the Philippines and later on they called it magellan's cross.
3. Basilica del Santo Nino---the home of our beloved Santo Nino de Cebu. an effigy of the child jesus presented to the wife of Rajah Humabon during Magellan's expedition.
4. Casa Gorordo Museum ---the house was built in the 1850, four generations of the Gorordo family have lived in this house inclcuding Bishop Juan Gorordo, the first filipino Bishop.
5. Taoist temple-- built in 1972 and funded by the cebu's substantial chinese community. The temple is the center of worship for Taoism. Taoist temple is open to the worshipers and non-worshipers alike. A ritual among devotees is where one prays to the gods to grant one's wish. The ritual includes washing of hands, going inside the chapel barefoot and dropping two blocks of wood. If the blocks of wood are both face up then one could make a wish. If not then it is not yet the time for one's wish to be granted and one has to come to the temple some other time.
6. Mactan Shrine--- Were the Battle of Lapu-Lapu & Magellan Take Place.
7. Guitar Factory--- it is where our famous guitar's are made.
Then passing thru the oldest street " COLON " then Fuente Osmena, Capitol Bulding.
Where to eat and go clubbing
For your lunch you can go to JY Square Mall at Lahug for cheapest meals or ask any locals for Jo’s Inato in Salinas Drive and try their tanguige steak, or the adobong talong or kangkong and last, the mouth watering buko – halo for dessert! It is a halo – halo (ice cream, sweets, leche flan etc) inside a buko (coconut). The ambiance is very local with furniture mostly made of bamboos and woods.
If you want to see a bit of night life at Cebu go to Mango Avenue. There are a few number of decent dance clubs you may find yourself twirling your body in a small dance floor. You can order their ice cold light beers, sisig or their pork lechon – one of Cebu’s not to miss food!
