Robotics do not attract much attention compared to other fields of science in the Philippines yet. We have one of the best minds that can compete globally at any types of endeavors but we remain behind. Unfortunately, our government seems to be showing too little interest to support the integration of robotics that can perhaps solve one of the many problems in our country. Thanks to a group of individuals and private institutions that believe in the talents of our students who are inclined in robotics.

Last Aug. 15th, I had the opportunity to join the media and bloggers presentation of our country's representatives to the International Robotics Olympiad this coming Nov. 5-9 at Shijingshan Gymnasium, Beijing, China. It is sad to know that the parents and private individuals have to shoulder the expenses for the kids just to join the competition when they are the ones to bring glory to our country once they win.

Good thing there is Data Science and Techonology Corporation, one of the major sponsors that provide assistance to the Philippine student representatives. Although they cannot help everyone who will join the competition it is already a big thing. I hope more and more companies should be able to learn about this and jump in to help them.

Pinoy Robot Games Founder and Director, Mr. Melvin Matulac explained to us how they select participants to international robotics competition. Every year there are 300+ school teams that participates in the National Robotics Competition. The champions from these competition are the ones who qualify to the International Robotics Olympiad.
There are many different game categories that an individual/group of students can join: Sumobot, Line tracing, Mission Challenge and Humanoid Challenge.

They are all innovative, promising and a breakthrough at a very affordable price. This coming Sept. 12th, they will be having a Creative Robo Fest to be held at Don Bosco Canlubang. Students will build robots taht would be able to help stop global warming. The winners will also form part of the Philippine Robotics team who will compete in Beijing, China in November.

On Dec. 13th, the National Robotics Competition will be held at Don Bosco Makati. Middle of 2015, the Asian Robotics Competition will be held in Indonesia.
