The 20th French Film Festival In Manila This June 5-9, 2015 At Greenbelt Cinema, Makati

I am and will always be a fan of international film festivals.  French Film Festival is one of my favorites. As a matter of fact, I was checking my archives and found out that I got blog posts about it as early the 15th French Film Festival in 2010 and a bunch more. I remember in those early years I had to arrive at least an hour before the movie starts because of the long line.  So imagine the feeling when I got an invitation to join the 20th French Film Festival Press Preview yesterday and the Red Carpet Opening Night on June 3rd from the Press, Information, and Communication Section of French Embassy - Manila.

Most of the invitees there are from the press and media so it was a bit different feeling for someone like me who is used to join brand launching and events but usually with fellow blogger friends. There are I learned that France and the Philippines actually have a longtime affair of collaborations when it comes to bringing French critically-acclaimed films and blockbusters to local audiences. The festival obviously aims to promote French culture and at the same time support the local film industry. I was really glad to see and listen to a very young Filipino film-maker Pepe Diokno sharing his experiences while staying in Paris.  He is the director of the award-winning film “Above the Clouds” that won him French film grant.

The French Ambassador to the Philippines Gilles Garachon was also there to welcome everyone about by saying "Reaching the 20th edition of the French Film Festival shows that Filipinos are genuinely curious to know more about French language, culture and society. Filipinos want to learn more about the French and vice versa, and what better way to facilitate this than through cinema. "

Of course the most-awaited part is we also got to the movie, Hippocrate, a 2014 French comedy-drama film received seven nominations at the 40th César Awards, winning Best Supporting Actor for Reda Kateb.

There is also a Filipino movie to be shown -"Taklub," which stars Nora Aunor, won the Ecumenical Jury Prize-Special Mention at this year’s Cannes Film Fest by no other than  Brilliante Mendoza.
