Philippine Airlines Introduces Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity System

I’m that kind of passenger who doesn’t sleep while on – board the airplane except if I had no enough sleep and rest. I literally need to get myself entertained or else I may end up bothering my nearest seatmate for an endless chat. Weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join Philippine Airlines’ new InFlight  entertainment and connectivity system which is such a cool idea since I have a total of 20, 000+ Golden Circle points from Shangrila – Hotel and Hotel Jen Manila stays.  I am soon to be converting these points to Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles. That means I am seeing myself flying with PAL anytime soon much more frequently.  Composed of 4 parts: myPAL eSuite, myPAL  Player, myPAL Wi-fi and myPAL Mobile, this is the perfect thing you’ll ever need up in the air whether it is a short or long – haul flight.

Held last September 30th, I with other bloggers, online influencers and media personalities checked this ourselves. Actually this is a bit different compared to other entertainment facilities of other airlines I have tried because instead of having an LCD panel at the back of the seat to  showcase their wide – array of entertainment stuff, the passengers should first download the app to their own gadgets. Now if you are using your own gadget for streaming videos, playing music and all that you will need to have your own powerbank and earphones handy. A bonus that night is a close encounter with the one and only Bamboo who sang a few of his songs and singing the official PAL jingle.

Here's the official press release from PAL itself:

PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime J. Bautista said, “As we embark on our journey to become a five-star, full-service carrier and a source of pride for Filipinos everywhere, we will continue to enhance our customers’ experience. Ultimately, making more people to fall in love even more with Philippine Airlines.”

“Our goal is to offer attractive inflight entertainment & connectivity services to deliver a pleasant travel experience to our passengers. Our redefined inflight entertainment aims to move Philippine Airlines towards the vision of becoming a five-star full service national carrier of the Philippines, the airline of choice in all markets we serve and become a source of pride for Filipinos everywhere,” Bautista added.

The myPAL eSuite allows passengers to be entertained with over 300 hours of free movies, TV shows and music from either personal TVs or overhead screens. Personal TVs are available on flights to and from Vancouver, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles via the Boeing 777-300ER. As for the A320-200, which flies to Saipan, Canton, Jinjiang, Macau, Beijing, Darwin, Jakarta, Taipei, Xiamen, Bangkok, Bali, Port Moresby, Auckland and other international destinations, personal TVs are available on Business Class and overhead screens are available on Economy Class.

The myPAL Player is a new state-of-the-art wireless entertainment app that allows passengers to stream movies, TV shows, music and e-magazines for free on their own device when they fly. It can be downloaded from Apple Store or Google Play. It can also be installed inflight for Android users and Laptops. The myPAL Player is available on Airbus A340, A330 and A321. The A330 flies to Melbourne, Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda, Osaka, Nagoya, Honolulu*, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Riyadh, Kuwait, Dammam, and Bangkok. The A321s fly to Brisbane, Guam, Singapore, Fukuoka, Shanghai, Incheon, Pusan, Saigon, Tokyo Narita, Taipei, and Hong Kong. The A340s flies to Sydney, London, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Cebu-Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Another component of the Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity System is myPAL Wi-fi, which enables passengers to surf the net and stay connected even at 30,000 feet above the ground. As part of our 75th anniversary, Philippine Airlines is offering free Wi-Fi use of 30 minutes or up to 15mb usage until February 28, 2017. Upgrade plans are also available on board.
