Spanish culture is close to my heart for some reasons. Since high school I was fascinated by their language that I even enrolled at Instituto Cervantes Manila for 3 months only, the only school that is accredited by the Spain Embassy here in the Philippines to learn how to speak it. This one isn't planned nor I ever wished but there were two Spanish (travelling) men who briefly "passed by" my life. Both of them inspired me to travel and at some point fell in love. They are now gone but my penchance to their heritage remained.
I am always fascinated by a flamenco show especially those long colorful dresses of the lady dancers that's why when an opportunity to watch an authentic performance here in Manila by a group of spanish, I had to say yes in an instant. Held at Circuit Makati, Origen was already starting when we arrived. We were a bit late because we were previously at the event of Century Tuna's launching for Pia Wurtzbach as brand ambassador that started almost 2 hours late so as domino effect we were in a hurry to get to this event.
The Power Mac Center Spotlight was dark and cold when we arrived. We sat at the left side of the stage but close enough to see them personally. This group is composed of 6 Spanish men (1 of them is the main dancer) and only 1 woman who dances as well. I, along with the rest of the crowd don't speak and understand Spanish language fluently but there's something about the songs that they sing accompanied by those musical instruments that romanticize the sound.
Inspired by the music of the legendary Paco de Lucia, a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer and producer, that night was all about celebrating the passion for dancing and singing. I didn't know actually that Flamenco dancing is intense - with all those feet stomping I was wondering what are the brands of shoes they wore and that wooden stage should be strong enough for the million times these dancers stomp their feet!
No wonder this Flamenco event in Manila showcases the Spanish heritage in its truest form. I mean who else would better dance these than those who have Spanish blood and was born in España?
Aside from the great performance, we also got to taste some of Spanish cuisine made of ingredents from Doña Elena, a company that brings the heart of Mediterranean cooking into Filipino homes. I also went home bringing a bag of these brand which includes olive oils, olives, capers, pastas and anchovies.
These are no ordinary ingredients, these are food for a healthy lifestyle. Special mention is the olive oil which is the best selling among Doña Elena's products. It brings out irresistible aroma while retaining high levels of antioxidants like polyphenols and oleic acid. It is also a great source of vitamins E, K and A that helps to lower bad cholesterol level.
Hope to watch more flamenco shows and looking forward to add Doña Elena products in our kitchen on a daily basis. Dona Elena products are exclusively distributed in the Philippines by Fly Ace Corporation. For more updates and promos, you may like Dona Elena's Facebook Fan Page here.
