I call Manila my home for the past 14 years. However, I haven't explored it yet. For some reasons, Manila is always the second priority when it comes to getaways because I always say it is just around the corner and. I don't even know whom to ask whenever I feel like just taking a bus or jeepney then head to somewhere near to eat or check a local spot. I even started calling or reaching out to local tourism offices of some cities of Manila - they aren't organized yet. Good thing, a newly-launched mobile app is here to help us.
My Metro Manila mobile app is brought to you by the Department of Tourism — National Capital Region (DOT-NCR) led by Regional Director Woodrow “RR” C. Maquiling, Jr. Powered by Explora.ph, Metro Manila is a powerful tool that condenses everything a traveler should know about Metro Manila in a single app. It runs with a purpose: making traveling within the city easier, more convenient, and worthwhile. It is equipped to provide a seamless and enhanced tourist experience while in the nation’s capital.
With this app, I think I have so much to visit aside from Binondo and Intramuros. I have checked the app myself, there are so many lesser destinations and hole-in-the-wall dining spots waiting for us to discover! It is really an all-in-one app because one can also book a place to stay for a night as well.
Soon, My Metro Manila will roll out DOT accredited tours and accommodations listings to be included in the app, ready to be booked by its users. These listings are forged by partnerships and cooperation from both DOT and Tourism Related Establishments (TREs). It will soon also include preferred language options to fit everyone.
To top it off, the app can be used to keep track of Metro Manila’s best features, secrets, and stories. My Metro Manila app is DOT-NCR’s step in making Metro Manila a more tourist-friendly metropolis by providing comfort, convenience, and information available to every traveler.
Last week, I had the honor to check some of the delicious dishes offered by participating Manila cities that are all recommended via My Metro Manila app. I can see that the organizers behind this app really did well in choosing which ones really worth eating and of course the destinations - I can't wait to visit those that I haven't been! My personal favorites were Pancit Malabon of Malabon, the puto bumbong of Casa Poblacion in Pasay and Putong Polo of Valenzuela. For my meat-eating friends, they love Beef Tapa from Paranaque. I just wish though they highlight more varieties such as plant-based food/vegan/vegetarian Filipino food. It is healthier for our body and do not cause so much waste to our environment.
My Metro Manila is available for downloads on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Keep updated with the Department of Tourism - NCR’s latest news and activities via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TourismMNL/). Or visit the Department of Tourism website, (http://www.tourism.gov.ph/)
