Looking for a vegetarian restaurant in Sorsogon? There’s no 100% vegetarian restaurant here in our province but there’s one that offers vegetarian food on their menu. Last month, we discovered Delia’s 20/20 Diner, a restaurant that serves different kinds of Indian plus other international cuisines located in front of Iglesia Ni Cristo church and in the intersection going to Sorsogon University's Engineering Department that is currently being constructed.
Delia's Diner is a bit far from Sorsogon city center however it is not hard at all to miss it. Just tell anyone where is the road to Bacon then get off in front of Iglesia Ni Cristo. In front of it is Delia's Diner already. Another option is ask anyone where is the road leading to Sorsogon University's Engineering Department. Delia's Diner is the first restaurant you will see from the road where you are going to turn right.
In this blog post, I will only showcase the plant-based food we ordered in this Indian restaurant in Sorsogon. See below:
Chana Masala (chickpeas) & Dal (splitpeas)
Chana Masala is the one that is colored yellow and Daal is the one that is colored reddish. Both are cooked curry style. According to the one answering the Facebook fan page of Delia’s Diner, there were fourteen (14) different spices used to cook these. Then add onion, tomato, garlic, ginger and chili.
Cumin Potatoes with Paratha bread
Potatoes cooked with cauliflower, peas and the rest of spices of a typical Indian dish. Paratha is a whole wheat pan-fried bread.
Chaat
Ensalada version from South India. It is made of cucumber, potatoes, garbanzo, salt, pepper and one secret ingredient.
Overloaded Baked Potatoes
This may sound like too plain but wow, this is the bomb! I never knew how a plate of baked potatoes can taste so good! It comes with cucumber, tomatoes and bits of bacon. You can tell them to not include these if you like. I can't remember the rest of ingredients but you'll thank me after you order this.
Mango Lassi and Mango Smoothie
Mango lassi is like halo-halo with yogurt and real mango. I emphasized real mango because in other stores, they serve mango shakes and smoothies using powdered form of mango which I don't really like. Mango lassi is a local dessert commonly found in South.
Samosa
Ever heard of a deep-fried baked pasty that is made of spiced potatoes, onions, peas and more? The last one I had a really-good plantbased samosa is in Boracay so it was so nice to eat something similar to the taste I really enjoyed.
Chopsuey(no photo)
I guess no need to explain this one to fellow Filipinos. One of the tastiest chopsueys I have ever tasted is in Delia's Diner in Bacon, Sorsogon. I swear! Though it is my sibling who ate the rest of the chopsuey he ordered. I only tasted 2-3 spoons of it. If I am not mistaken, the soup of chopsuey is mixed with a bit of porkor chicken liver.
I went to Delia's Diner with my siblings who are not on plantbased diet and ordered some meat-based as well. However, like I said I want this blog post of mine particularly sharing the word about where to eat plantbased food in Sorsogon.
Aside from indoor seats, Delia's Diner has outdoor seats so I give them 10, 000 points because I can bring my dog Ollie and eat at the outdoor seats. Definitely, pets are not allowed inside restaurants with indoor seats only.
The vibe inside Delia's Diner is great. I saw photos of California signages. The reason is the family comes from the United States. As a matter of fact, the daughter is a coach in one of the football leagues in the United States. I overheard the guy owner while he was talking with my friends.
Do I recommend Delia's Diner? Yes. We went back for the second time yesterday bringing a German lady who is a vergetarian for 17 years now. She said she likes Delia's Diner too. We did not ate heavy meals that because we are rushing to go to join the Buhatan River Cruise. We suggest checking Delia's Diner Facebook fan page for the updated menuof this restaurant.
