subic beach matnog, sorsogon

Subic Pink Beach in Matnog is one of the best beaches in Sorsogon province.  In fact, it is one of the most popular items in any Bicol itinerary one should not miss when visiting Sorsogon. Good thing, we were able to find a tour operator based in Matnog, Sorsogon that offers Subic island hopping tour as joiners. This means we are paying the most affordable amount all while participating in a group of mixed travelers.

WHERE TO STAY IN SUBIC MATNOG SORSOGON

Since we went to Subic Beach in Matnog during peak season, we know that unexpected circumstances could happen. Though we were told that there are free tents for us to use according to the tour package operator of the Subic Beach Matnog tour package we availed, we still brought ours. Thanks because it was a good move! Because as soon as we arrived, we were able to pitch our own tents. The rest in the group got angry because the promised free tents came already at 7pm and are wet!

I can understand the frustration because I organize tours as well many times in the past. They have been waiting to settle their things as soon as we arrived which was late afternoon and they want to lie down at least in a spot they can call their own. I also do not blame the tour operators for the mishap because things can get messy when it's busy season.  However, the rest of the trip was pleasant in general for us.

What is our Subic Beach Overnight Tour Package Itinerary like?

Day 1

1 PM: Assembly in front of Matnog Tourism Office
2 PM: Departure to Subic Pink Beach or Subic Dako (big)
2:30 PM: Arrival to Subic Pink Beach
4 PM:  Pitching our own tent. Swimming to Subic Pink Beach
8 PM: Dinner
9 PM: Sleep

Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperative. We were told that if the weather was great, we would be visiting Matnog's Underwater Cave. There was also miscommunication because the leader of the boat do not know where to drop us.

We were dropped to Subic Saday (small). The lady who oversees tourists here told us there was no reservation to us. After 20 minutes, the co-owner of the tour operator we hired from Matnog, Sorsogon called and told the one manning the boat to bring us to Subic Dako because that is where she has already arranged everything like the shared open cottage, the nearby areas where we will pitch our tents and the food that we are going to eat will be cooked by locals there.

What is the difference between Subic Saday versus Subic Dako in Matnog, Sorsogon?

Subic Beach in Matnog, Sorsogon is divided into two strips. Subic Dako is the one with longer strip of sand. Subic Saday has shorter strip of sand. Therefore, Subic Dako is occupied by more tourists than Subic Saday. Both have powdery white sand. The color of water in Subic Saday is somewhat darker blue. In Subic Dako it is a blue but lighter in comparison.

What is Juag Lagoon Sanctuary, Tikling Island and Calintaan Cave?

Juag Lagoon Sanctuary is home to 40+ species of fish inside a 17,000 square meter fish cage.  There are more than 10, 000+ fish living under.  There is NO entrance fee to enter Juag Lagoon sanctuary but  they encourage to buy  the commercial fish food and chunks of a certain kind of fish that they sell to feed the fishes for Php 200 per boat.

For those who are not interested to do the fish feeding, you can snorkel for Php 200 per head.  Just make sure you are not wearing any sunscreen (unless it is reef-safe sunscreen) because this is a threat to the fishes.

Tikling Island is privately owned just like Juag Lagoon Sanctuary but it has no rented accommodation. It is however open to the public for day tour only. The sand here I was told by my sister is super fine white sand with hues of pink color from crushed pink corals. Subic Dako and Subic Saday feature somewhat grayish with hues of pink color from crushed pink corals.

There are rock formations and mini-caves that are worth seeing while in Tikling island. Previously, Tikling Island has NO entrance fee because all tourists just stay in the shore and not permitted to roam around. However, let's wait since there is construction going on. Maybe they are improving Tikling Island and this comes with an entrance fee when they open to the public again. [NO PHOTO]

Calintaan Cave is always under the mercy of the weather.  When it is high tide, no one is allowed to get in there. Calintaan Cave's outer part is rocky but the top has lush vegetation. [NO PHOTO]
