9 Pet-friendly Airlines That Allow ORDINARY Pets In The Cabin for International Flights To and From Manila



Are you looking to bring your ordinary pets to your international travels from and to Manila, Philippines? Check these 9 airlines below. I specifically made a blog post about ordinary pets because all I see are mostly emotional support animals or service animals that are commonly accepted by most airlines of today. I firmly believe well-behaved, potty-trained and fully-vaccinated pets deserve to be tagged along in international flights. I am manifesting one for my furbaby, Ollie soon! 


1. Korean Air

Korean Air allows both ordinary pets (dogs, cats, and birds) and service animals, including emotional support animals, in the cabin under specific conditions. Ordinary pets must weigh no more than 7 kg (15 lbs) with their carrier, which must fit under the seat. Service animals are usually allowed regardless of weight, though emotional support animals have specific requirements.

Pet fee: Local (USD 25-50) International (USD 100-500)
Pet requirements: Must be at least 8 weeks old, fully weaned, and accompanied by a health certificate issued within 10 days of travel, confirming vaccinations and the absence of contagious diseases. The carrier's dimensions should be within 46cm x 28cm x 20cm (18in x 11in x 8in). C ountry-specific requirements may apply depending on the destination.



2. Delta Airlines 

Delta allows pets to travel in the cabin on international flights, provided the pet meets the size requirements. They are a popular choice for flights between Manila and the USA. It's always good to call in advance and secure your pet’s booking as in-cabin pet spots are limited. While Delta doesn't specify a maximum pet weight for in-cabin travel, the carrier dimensions must not exceed 18" x 11" x 11". The carrier should be small enough for the pet to stand, sit, and turn around comfortably inside.

Pet fee: Local (USD 95) for U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. International ( USD 200) except flights to Brazil which is USD 75. Pets must fit comfortably in a carrier that meets the airline's size requirements and can be placed under the seat in front of you​.
Pet requirements: Should fit comfortably inside the prescribed carrier that should remian under the seat in front of you. The combined weight of the pet and carrier must meet the airline's size and weight restrictions, though Delta typically recommends a soft-sided kennel.  Pets must be at least 10 weeks old for domestic flights and 16 weeks for international flights. A health certificate may be required for certain destinations, and pets must remain in the carrier throughout the flight.



3. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 

KLM permits small cats and dogs in the cabin, with a maximum weight of 8 kg (including the carrier). The carrier must fit under the seat and provide enough space for the pet to turn and lie down comfortably. 
 

Pet fee: EUR 75-EUR 400 depending on route and destination.
Pet requirements: Must be small dogs or cats weighing no more than 8 kg (17 lbs), including the carrier. The pet must remain in a soft-sided, leak-proof, and well-ventilated carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. You need to present a health certificate issued within 10 days of departure.  Advance reservation is required due to limited space for pets on each flight. Additional country-specific entry requirements may apply based on your destination​



4. Air France

Air France allows small pets, such as dogs and cats, to travel in the cabin with their owners on most flights, provided the combined weight of the pet and its carrier does not exceed 8 kg (17 lbs). Pets must remain in a soft-sided, leak-proof, and well-ventilated carrier that can fit under the seat in front of the passenger. 

Pet fee: Starts at EUR 125 with higher fees for flights outside France
Pet requirements: Pets traveling within the European Union must have a microchip and a European pet passport. which certifies their vaccinations and health status. 



5. United Airlines

United Airlines allows small pets such as cats, dogs, and rabbits to travel in the cabin with their owners on most domestic and some international flights. Pets must be carried in an airline-approved, ventilated carrier that fits under the seat in front of the passenger, ensuring the pet’s safety and comfort throughout the journey. The combined weight of the pet and carrier should meet United's size and weight limits, and pets must remain in the carrier for the duration of the flight.

Pet fee: USD 125 for small pets traveling in the cabin on most domestic and some international flights. This fee applies each way, and there may be additional costs for layovers exceeding four hours within the U.S. or 24 hours internationally, in which case another USD 125  may apply.
Pet requirements: Must be a small cat, dog, or rabbit and fit in a carrier with maximum dimensions of 18" x 11" x 11". The pet and carrier combined must fit under the seat in front of you. A health certificate issued within 10 days of travel is required, and the pet must stay in the carrier during the flight. 

 


6. Swiss International Air Lines 

Swiss International Air Lines allows small pets, such as cats and dogs, to travel in the cabin on most flights. The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 8 kg (17 lbs), and the carrier should fit comfortably under the seat in front of you. Pets must remain inside their carrier for the entire duration of the flight. Advance reservations are required, as there is limited space for in-cabin pets, and fees vary depending on the flight route. For international travel, additional health certificates and vaccinations may be required.

Pet fee: For flights within Europe, the fee is CHF 60 (or its equivalent in EUR or USD). For intercontinental flights, the fee is CHF 100. This applies to small pets (dogs and cats) weighing up to 8 kg (17 lbs), including their carrier. The pet must remain in a well-ventilated carrier that fits under the seat in front of the passenger for the duration of the flight. Additional regulations may apply depending on the specific flight route and destination.

7. American Airlines 

American Airlines allows small pets, such as cats and dogs, to travel in the cabin on most domestic and select international flights. The pet must fit in an airline-approved carrier that can be placed under the seat in front of you, and the combined weight of the pet and carrier must meet size restrictions. The pet must stay inside the carrier throughout the flight, and advance booking is required as the number of pets allowed per flight is limited.


Pet fee: USD 125 each way for most domestic flights and flights to Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Additional fees may apply for international routes or layovers.
Pet requirements: The carrier's dimensions can be up to 19" x 13" x 9" (48 cm x 33 cm x 22 cm), and the combined weight of the pet and carrier must adhere to the airline's size requirements. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old for domestic flights and 16 weeks old for international travel or flights to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A health certificate may be required for some destinations, and it’s essential to check all vaccination requirements for your destination. 




8. Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines allows small pets, such as cats, dogs, and birds, to travel in the cabin, provided the combined weight of the pet and its carrier does not exceed 8 kg (17 lbs). Pets must remain in an airline-approved carrier that can fit under the seat in front of the passenger, and they must stay in the carrier throughout the flight. The pet's travel must be booked in advance, as there are limited spaces for pets in the cabin on each flight. For international travel, certain documentation, including health certificates and vaccinations, may be required depending on the destination.

Pet fee: For pets that is up to 8 kg, $65 USD. The fee may vary depending on the specific route and destination. For pets that exceed the 8 kg limit, they will need to travel in the cargo hold, and the fees for that begin at $130 USD for small pets (0-23 kg)​.

9. Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines allows passengers to bring up to two small pets (cats or dogs) in the cabin, provided they are housed in one or two airline-approved carriers. Each pet must be placed in a soft, leak-proof, and ventilated carrier, and the combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 8 kg (17 lbs). The pets must remain in their carriers throughout the flight, and advance booking is required to ensure space availability. Necessary travel documents, such as health certificates and vaccinations, are required based on the destination.

Pet fee: For domestic flights, the fee is EUR 50, while for flights within Europe, including destinations like Morocco and Armenia, the fee is EUR 60. For short intercontinental flights to countries like Jordan or Egypt, the fee increases to  EUR 80, and for medium intercontinental routes to the U.S., Canada, or the Maldives, it’s EUR 100. For longer routes, such as those to Thailand or South Africa, the fee is EUR 110. Pets exceeding this weight must be transported in the cargo hold, with different fees applicable.
Pet requirements: Pet should be able to fit in a carrier that is 55 x 40 x 23 cm. Pets must be at least 12 weeks old, and depending on your destination, you may need to provide a health certificate and proof of vaccinations. It's important to book your pet's travel in advance, as there is limited space for pets in the cabin.




FYI. Austrian Airlines and American Airlines do not offer direct flights to Manila but can provide connections through their partners or alliances. As always, kindly double check if not multiple check every written guideline of the airline of your choice plus the country of your destination so that everything is a walk in the park when the trip happens.
